The good news is Don Block had been able to complete both the Falam NT and Writers’ Handbook just before his accident and had even sent the Falam NT to the translator for a final check. Birch was able to come with the rest of the family to Northland, hurray! But we have several issues of prayer related to each item:
• The doctors were not able to save Don’s finger. He lost his finger from the first knuckle up and his ring finger from the second knuckle up. He was at risk for gangrene, so they had no choice but to remove them. Please continue to keep him and his wife Pat in your prayers.
• The Falam translator has already edited what Don sent him and sent page 92 pages of corrections!! Many of these are to bring the NT to match the writing standards set up in the Writers’ Handbook. Don is working on the corrections at home! He is an amazing, dedicated servant.
• Connie has completed the corrections Don marked in the Falam Writers’ Handbook. She had hoped to send it today to Myanmar, but we’ve started putting ISBN numbers on all our books so she has to wait to get that. Pray that the office is able to get this to us quickly. Usually Don handles this as well.
Connie has 30 students in her class this year! She has never had more than 24 and usually it’s closer to 20. Seven of these are graduate students. This means she needs to spend extra class hours with them and grade additional assignments. Just the extra grading will add a lot of time. Northland is helping by having someone else enter the grades and help administer some of the oral quizzes, but please keep her in your prayers as the class will definitely push her limits more than usual. Also, pray she doesn’t lose her voice. Last year we had you all praying ahead of time and it was the first year she didn’t lose her voice. So please start praying!
We’ve got so much to do to get ready for our trip. Pray we can get the work done while we’re here. |

We made it to Maine without any problems. We stopped and reported to a supporting church in NY on the way. This Sunday we're in northeastern Maine up near the border with New Brunswick.
We got done almost everything we needed to finish before we left Grand Rapids. This was an amazing act of God because 8 days before we were to leave the BI network went down. It was just before Dan Dennison came for 24 hours to help plan the long-term network architecture (design). He was a fantastic help, but with parts that had to be order and other issues it took
a week for Birch and James Wittenberger (the IT guy at BI) to get it back up and running again. But he finished Thursday morning so he planned to have all day Friday to finish his projects and pack before we left Saturday morning. Friday morning he got a call from the office, the network was down again! It took them into the afternoon to figure out what the problem was and get things working again. Pray for Dan & his wife Adrienne. They want to come with BI, Dan to manage the network and do other computer related things, and Adrienne to do linguistics. Pray for God's timing and financing. They would be a tremendous help and we really enjoy working with them.
We have another big prayer request. For the first time we have a young man coming with us as a shorter termer. It would work much better if there was another man to come with us so he didn't have to room and travel "alone" and to have someone to share with and discuss all that they are seeing and doing. This is a huge commitment - two months and $4-5,000. The young man who is coming with us has delayed going to college by a semester so that he can come. Pray that God leads someone to join us who can be a blessing and be blessed by this trip. |

HURRAY! The boys were bouncing of the walls (of the airplane & airport) for the last several hours they were so excited to be getting home. A number of things went wrong in Chicago and we were afraid we might miss our flight to Grand Rapids but God worked it all out and we arrived in Grand Rapids right on time. We’re home now. The boys have pulled out almost every toy they own J. They slept on the plane, but we only were able to get in a few minutes so we’re really tired. We’ve got to try to coax them to bed so we can get there ourselves before we collapse.
